Walking Tall...so to speak

Alert!  Dreaded “grandchildren” story!

We had the grandkids over this weekend.   In the aftermath, while cleaning up their devastation amidst utter exhaustion, the following profound thought occurred.  “These kids come here, assume and consume all our provision, then hit the road!”  We were responsible to shelter, feed, and entertain them.  They never gave it a thought, except to mutter the occasional, “I’m bored.”

Exactly like we act with God.

We cluelessly live without a thought that somebody has to foot the bill.  Yeah, we work and all that, but the basic stuff doesn’t just grow on trees!  Somebody had to plant the trees!  Consider: life, health, provision, security, and tranquility.  We take them for granted, until they come up in short supply.

Scripture gives us a clue or two.  “Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father above.”  “What do you have that you did not receive?”  And finally, “In Him, we live and move and have our being.”  (James 1:17, I Corinthians 4:7, Acts 17:28)

Truth be told, the kids were doing exactly what kids are supposed to do; just live securely in the shelter of our love.  It’s our job to provide and guide, its theirs to grow and go.  When they mature, they’ll understand, be grateful, and then it will be their turn.

Exactly like our walk with God.
